Observation deck from the International Terminal 3

Haneda International Airport is the largest airport in Japan serving both domestic and international passengers. It opened for air service in May 1955 serving domestic routes. But in July 1963 it started international service and began increasing it’s service until May 1978 when international passenger service moved to Narita International Airport to reduce aircraft congestion at Haneda. Larry Itliong and Dolores Huerta Mural San Jose

Larry Itliong & Dolores Huerta Mural in San Jose @ 4th & Santa Clara Streets SJ (Chevron Station)
Mural artists, community members, friends, and supporters in front of mural SJ 9-1-2024

Larry Itliong was a Filipino-American labor organizer and civil rights activist who played a key role in the Delano Grape Strike of 1965, which paved the way for the establishment of the United Farm Workers (UFW) union and better working conditions. Born in the Philippines in 1913, Itliong immigrated to the United States in 1929 and became a farm worker in California. Meanwhile it was Dolores Huerta a labor leader and civil rights activist that co-founded the United Farm Workers along with Cesar Chavez.

Two years ago Andrew Espio, Owner of 1 Culture Gallery, asked Analyn Bones to showcase one of her paintings to his cannery art show. One of the paintings showed the strike that involved Larry Itliong and Cesar Chavez but there are no murals of Larry Itliong, who was just as important as Chavez.

Artists that worked on the mural included: Analyn (Ana) Bones, Jordan Gabriel, Mel Melchon, Juan Valsquez, and Miguel Machuca. The mural began on April 21, 2024 and completed this Mural on May 3rd 2024.

James Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Moss Beach, CA

James Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Moss Beach, CA

James Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is a beach with diverse marine life such as algae, crabs, sponges, sea-stars, mollusks, and fish. James Fitzgerald, a former San Mateo County board of supervisor president, passed a bill designating the Moss Beach tide-pool area as a Reserve. It is a great resource for studying marine life, the coastal ecosystem, and natural history. One current issue is impacting the marine reserve is over-tourism with over 130,000 people annually damaging the tidepools and is threatening to destroy this sheltered refuge. Hopefully the Marine Reserve staff and volunteers can control the over eager tourists visiting the reserve in the future.
